Doug’s car is just a little
further along than this photo. He hopes to have the new rear end
under it soon so it will roll again. It is a 69 RS that Doug is
making an SS clone. Doug has pulled the sub-frame out and had it
powder coated. Doug has decided to go back very close to stock, but
not completely. Doug bought the car from a gentleman last year and
it was his daily driver. When Doug picked it up where the man
worked, his wife had to pick him up so that he could buy another car
to get to work the next day. The car has almost no rust, but was in
need of a major restoration. Doug said that 194,000 miles without
even changing a ball joint made it an interesting drive home.
Sub-frame and rear spring bushings were almost non-existent. Now
Doug has installed new PST bushings throughout, new disc brakes and
a 3:55 12 bolt posi for the rear. The transmission was swapped for a
200 4R. The 307 2bbl became a 350 4bbl. The car already had tilt
wheel. Even though the car had original factory air Doug ordered a
Vintage Air kit. He figures the R134A will result in a cleaner
engine compartment. Doug is scrambling to get the car done, as it is
the one he wants to take on the power tour. Good Luck Doug! |
