April 2005 Feature Car

Tad shares the story of his 1968 Camaro:

My late father ordered this car through Wells Chevrolet in Iowa Park, TX, and took delivery 11-17-67. He loved it, but he had a bad back and it was hard to get in and out of it. When I reached driving age in 1973 it was turned over to me in trade for labor. I drove it throughout high school, college, and up until the early 90’s. At 169,000 miles, it finally lost oil pressure when a journal bolt failed, and that lead to restoration. What followed was a full restoration that took 10 years. Except for the transmission/diff. rebuild, all work was performed by my brother and I working out of our home garages in our spare time. Everything has been taken down to bare components and brought back up to new specs. Even the insides of the fenders were stripped to bare metal. The glass is original except for the windshield which was showing too much wear to re-use.

What would you do differently with the car? Nothing, it is a perfect mix of original history with a few modern touches to make it safer and more efficient.
