May 2005 Feature Car

Jim shares the story of his 1968 Camaro:

I guess that the most unique feature of my car is that it is the Phantom “SS327”. No, there was no such “BADGED” model, but they were built. See article by Rich Fields http://www.camaro-untoldsecrets.com/articles/article_fs.htm.
The second most unique feature of the car is that the original owner was a pack rat and kept ALL documentation on the car as well as ALL the receipts for all the work and parts that he ever put on the car. When I bought the car it was in its complete original form. I have done a “Ground up” myself on the car. The only thing done by a shop was the machining for the engine rebuild. As I went through the car, all information was recorded and sent into Kurt Sonen of the CRG, due to it being only the second completely original, fully documented L30/M20 Camaro known to exist. Even though some of the aspects of the car have been upgraded, all the original parts are kept so that it can be put back to original condition if I ever become a “Purist”. Ironically, I was looking for a car that I could build into a Pro-Street car and didn’t realize what I had purchased until I began to dig into it. Guess that means that there will be another Camaro in my future!!!

How did you acquire the car?
I acquired the car with the help of a friend at work who owned a ‘68 Camaro. He taught Sunday School and would give rides to students as rewards. One of his young students told him that a neighbor had a Camaro that he was going to sell.
