June 2005 Feature Car

Fern shares the story of his 1969 Pace Car:

There’s not a lot to tell other than a nice find. Rarely do you find a car this old that has no rust and is still 98% original. But Tom Potts and I do a lot of buying/selling of these classics and he came across this throw another deal, car unseen - bought it from a city official from Ohio which he bought it from this lady in Tennessee which I believed owned it for over 20 years. We believe the car is a 3 long-term owner car. I’m in the process of contacting previous owner/history, but the car is the cleanest rust free survivor I have ever seen. The car needed nothing but a good paint job and some body straightening work and much needed detail. It still had the original factory markings “PBT”, and the factory over spray underneath. I’ve owned the car for over 6 months.

What would you do differently with the car?

I wish I did not have to restore it and leave it as a survivor. But on the other hand this will prolong the life of this car for another 40 years if all goes well.
